Despite the challenges posed by the 2009 recession,
Peisers managed to raise almost R10 million for our clients from our
Corporate and Trust Fund benefactors.
Some of our year's highlights include:-
- Peisers assisted the engineering company, DRA Minerals
to obtain BBBEE socio economic development and enterprise development
points by selecting qualifying sustainable projects to suit their
CSI requirements.
Dominican Convent School received assistance from DRA for the building
of a science centre, and the firm also funded a maths and science
intern at Sekolo sa Borokgo as well as contributing to the running
costs of Kgosi Neighbourhood Foundation.
With over 18 years experience in the corporate social investment
space, we are able to offer a variety of sustainable projects fitting
the Department of Trade and Industries’ criteria for Enterprise
and Socio Economic Development Projects.
The intention of BEE Policy is to provide previously disadvantaged
individuals with the opportunity to access and participate in the
mainstream economy. This is done by awarding companies points which
qualify them to win state-related business. The extension of ownership
to previously disadvantaged individuals is only one of the developmental
goals of BEE and is only applicable to companies of a certain size.
Other elements, such as enterprise development and socio–economic
development make it easier for companies to score substantial points
on their BEE Score cards, whilst making a worthwhile contribution
to the South African economy.
To obtain 15 points towards their BEE scorecards, companies with
a turnover of between R5m and R35m should contribute 2% of net profit
after tax towards Enterprise Development projects while those with
turnovers in excess of R35m should contribute 3%.
Peisers with twenty years of experience in this field, is well positioned
to match corporates with well-run sustainable projects to maximize
points on their score card.

Platinum Donor status, which they earned by committing to provide
bursary funding of at least R12m over 4 years for 100 students.
- Peisers raised in excess of R2m in 2009 for the Dominican
Convent School (DCS). On 3 November a fundraising luncheon
was held for the DCS at SA House in London, hosted by the High Commissioner,
Mr Zola Skweyiya. In 2008 Stowe School selected 5 DCS pupils to
participate in a one year exchange programme at the school, which
proved so successful that Stowe repeated it in 2009. The five DCS
learners attending Stowe were present at the SA House reception
and provided guests with many interesting insights to their experiences
in the UK.

Peisers secured funding for SSB (Sekolo
sa Borokgo) from the Epoch Optima Trust for the Public
Schools’ Maths Challenge to increase both the number of quality
mathematics passes, and the number of disadvantaged learners who
have access to quality education. SSB is one of three identified
hub schools on the ISASA Maths and English programme, which seeks
to increase the throughput of Black Learners matriculating with
Maths and English.
